Derbyshire tops the country for growth of new businesses

More new companies were established in the county in 2015 than any previous year.

And as an amazing 7,414 new companies were formed compared to only 5,987 the year before, representing a 23.8 per cent growth, the county shows the highest rate of attracting new business than any other region in England.

And while more new businesses incorporated here than in Nottinghamshire, some 3,457 were dissolved, so there are no 43,692 companies registered in Derbyshire.

And although Derbyshire had the highest rate per capita, the region with the highest number of new businesses overall was London, with just under 200,000.

The statistics were compiled by www.informdirect.co.uk, a provider of online company formations and secretarial software, using data available from Companies House and the Office of National Statistics.

Its report - The Inform Direct Review of UK Company Formations in 2015 - includes a league table of company formations county by county as well as statistics on firms registered and dissolved and percentage growth.

Henry Catchpole, managing director of Inform Direct said: “Our dynamic economy and business-friendly environment are the reasons there is a ‘Great’ in Great Britain.

“Of course London has always stormed ahead in business but our figures from 2015 demonstrate that the rest of the UK is also displaying a growing confidence in entrepreneurialism.

“In terms of success year on year Derbyshire is the most impressive with staggering percentage growth.

“These sort of figures indicate a surge in entrepreneurialism in 2015 for this region.”

Of the new companies created last year in Derbyshire, Bolsover was the winning town with 1,952 incorporations, just beating Derby 1,913 while High Peak had 562 and Erewash 556.

Chesterfield attracted 555 new businesses followed by 529 in Amber Valley and 424 in Derbyshire Dales.
