East Midlands Ambulance Service said its paramedics dealt with 22 road crashes between midnight and 8am.

Flooding and debris have been reported on some roads across the county following the storm and drivers are being urged to take extra care.

A yellow ‘be aware’ warning from the Met Office is in place for Derbyshire until midday – with torrential rain bringing the possibility of “localised surface water flooding”.

However, it should eventually brighten up to leave a fine and dry afternoon with some sunny spells.

It will feel very warm with temperatures reaching 26C.

Earlier this week, Britain basked in the hottest July day on record.
