Gladman Developments has appealed to the Planning Inspectorate after Amber Valley Borough Council (AVBC) refused permission for the homes on Roes Lane, Crich, on grounds that it did not meet planning criteria.

Residents concerned about the development’s position on greenfield land have set up an action group to fight the proposal.

A spokesman for the Keep Crich a Village (KCAV) group said: “We are working closely with Crich Parish Council and AVBC to fight this development, which would have a massive detrimental impact on our village.

“Not only would it completely overloading its infrastructure, there would be a considerable increase in traffic on narrow country roads leading up to and within Crich.

“Whilst recognising the need for additional housing in Amber Valley, there is currently no lack of available housing in Crich and therefore no logic in extending the village and destroying its surrounding countryside.”

Concerns have also been raised about the development’s proximity to Hilts Quarry, which was used for years by Roll Royce to dump low–level nuclear waste.
