Discover your heritage at this year’s festival

More than 180 event are planned to introduce residents and visitors alike to the heritage of the Derwent Valley Mills.

This year’s Discovery Days Festival runs from Saturday, October 26, to Sunday, November 3, and explores the World heritage Site through a series of walks and workshops.

People can take a trip on Birdswood, the newly installed narrowboat at Cromford Canal, learn heritage skills at Derbyshire’s Eco Centre or have a privileged look inside some of the oldest industrial houses in the world.

“The team make a conscious effort to make sure the mix of activities stays as fresh as ever,” said site director Mark Suggitt.

“This is the ninth year of Discovery Days, and the festival just goes from strength to strength.

“As well as the perennial favourites, some of which have taken place in every festival and have their own dedicated audience, there are plenty of new experiences to enjoy and as always most events are free-of-charge.”

To see what’s on during the festival, visit www.derwentvalleymills.org/discovery-days. The booklet of the events is available from the mills, county libraries and tourist information points.
