Drivers urged to check lightsas police launch campaign

Police are asking drivers to make sure the lights on their vehicles are working properly before heading out on the roads.

It comes after officers from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team spotted cars with faulty brake lights or their headlights switched off being used on the roads after dark.

Over the next few weeks, the team will be stopping vehicles with lights out as part of an ongoing road safety campaign.

PCSO Anthony Boswell, from the team, said: “It’s vitally important for your own safety and that of other road users to make sure your vehicle is in proper working order.

“Faulty brake or headlights need fixing immediately as they are paramount in keeping drivers and pedestrians aware of what’s on the roads.

Drivers still need to use their headlights when the light drops low.

“We will be out advising any motorists who aren’t using their lights properly to make sure they check their car, van or motorbike before setting off on their journey.”
