Duo land roles in top ballet

Two young dancers are jumping for joy after being selected to dance with professional company the English Youth Ballet.

Benjamin Jones (10) and Alice Rathbone (19) were selected at an audition from over 350 young hopefuls.

They will appear in an new adaptation of Swan Lake at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, for three performances in July.

Alice, from Oaker, is currently studying at Leeds University, while Benjamin, from Darley Dale, attends Darley Dale Primary

Benjamin said: ““I started dancing when I was about six.

“ I really liked dancing in my home so I went to a school and started off doing modern dance and acrobatic ballet which is a different style to ballet. I am really looking forward to English Youth Ballet and the whole experience especially the theatre trips. It is exciting and it is such a nice theatre to perform in.

“I would like to be a teacher when I grow up. I would be a school teacher and take my own ballet lessons which not many teachers do.”
