Children and parents at Winster Primary School have celebrated chalking up good marks from education watchdogs.

Ofsted inspectors visited the school just five weeks after new head teacher Sharon Slack joined Winster from Wessington school, where she had been deputy head.

Their report saw the school judged as ‘good’ in all areas, and inspectors recognised that Mrs Slack is highly ambitious for the school.

The many positive features identified by the inspector include the enthusiastic response of pupils to lessons which are exciting and well taught.

The progress made by pupils has improved since the start of the school year, and this improvement has accelerated since Mrs Slack joined the school.

The inspector praised the excellent behaviour of pupils, and the high level of support from parents and staff for what the school is doing.

Mrs Slack said: “I was very pleased to see that the inspector recognised the high standards of teaching and behaviour throughout the school.

“Winster has a delightful group of children, and a dedicated staff and governing body. I’ve been very impressed by the welcome I’ve received from everyone in the village, and am really looking forward to working in the school.”
