Community groups who are interested in tackling climate change are being invited to a conference highlighting the issue and looking at solutions.

Derbyshire County Council is running a free one day conference for people living in the county at the Derbyshire Eco Centre in Middleton-by-Wirksworth on Saturday 9 March from 9.45am to 4.15pm.

The day will include:

Inspirational workshops from local community groups about their projects

The chance to meet lots of people doing similar work

Workshops by organisations that can help you tackle climate change

A ‘marketplace’ of stalls packed full of useful information

Councillor John Allsop, Cabinet Member for Recycling and Technology, said: “Climate change affects everyone and we need to do as much as we can to help minimise the effects in the future.

“This conference is a great way for community groups to find out about new and different ways to help tackle climate change.”

There will also be two national keynote speakers including Jerome Baddley, author of the 2020 Energy Strategy for Nottingham City and Ruth Mayne who co-founded and is chair of Low Carbon West Oxford

Ruth’s group runs projects covering energy, transport, food, waste reduction and wildlife and won in the Low Carbon Communities Challenge.

Bookings are now being taken for the conference and anyone living in Derbyshire can book a free place by contacting Nick Pigula on 01629 53830 or
