Everything going swimmingly for pool trustees

A TRUST has taken over the running of a community swimming pool.

The Wirksworth Swimming Pool Trust took over the running of the pool from the Derbyshire Dales District council at the start of the month.

Residents rallied to save the swimming pool after plans to run the learner pool as a private business sparked fears for the facility’s future.

The trust has appointed two senior swimming teachers, Kathryn Dooley and Loubie Challenor, to lead paid lessons there from April 26.

The pool will be closed for a period for refurbishment with the work earmarked for completion by Monday, April 19.

Priority for lesson places will go to children already attending the pool.

Glyn Booth, from the trust, said: “For the week commencing April 19 providing the work is completed on time the trust will provide the existing lesson programme free of charge as a thank you to existing customers who have stayed loyal to the pool through this period of uncertainty.”

Spare lesson places will be offered to other Wirksworth children, subject to availability.
