Fallen heroes remembered

Hundreds of families and war veterans attended Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day services in towns and villages across the area to honour those who died in conflicts past and present.

They joined the country in observing two minutes of silence at 11am.

In Matlock veterans and dignitaries gathered at Pic Tor War Memorial in the morning, then at the head of Hall Leys Park in the afternoon.

Among the other services held throughout the Dales, more than 200 people gathered at a service in Darley Dale.

Led by Darley Dale Brass Band and Darley Dale Cubs and Brownies, the parade marched from Broadwalk to the Whitworth Park.

In Ashover Binyon’s Lines of Remembrance were spoken by the Right Rev Bob Beak, assistant Bishop of Derby.

Ashover Band, under conductor Andy Davey, provided music for the service and band member Alan Rimmington sounded the Last Post and Reveille.

In the afternoon, a special service of thanksgiving and hope was organised for families bereaved during the past year and those who had lost loved ones in earlier years.
