Family firm changes hands after decades trading

The owner of a family–run electrical store is saying goodbye to his loyal customer base after decades in business.

As of today, Westons, in the Market Place, Wirksworth, will change hands, becoming Sureview Westons.

Tony Weston has run the store for 47 years.

He started work there as soon as he left school and took over ownership from his father, Bill Weston.

“I’d just like to thank the people of Wirksworth and to wish the new owner all the best,” Tony said.

The new owner of the business will be David Pinder, who already owns two electrical stores in Alfreton and Shirebrook.

He said: “We stock virtually all the same brands as Tony.

“What impressed me was when I first came to see Tony was the number of goodwill cards he had received from customers – Westons has been here nearly 80 years after all.”

After retiring, Tony plans to enjoy his time with his wife, Pam, his two daughters and four grand children.

Customers both past and present and local people are invited to an event at the shop tonight between 4pm and 9pm to bid farewell to Tony and welcome David.
