Farmers market parked

Organisers of Matlock Farmers Market are celebrating after members of the district council unanimously voted to continue hosting the event at Hall Leys Park.

Following many years running the market at the Imperial Rooms, Matlock Town Council asked permission to pilot running the farmers market at Park Head earlier this year.

Temporary permission was granted until December 2012 and so the monthly market has been going from strength-to-strength at its new location since May.

Following the verdict on Monday, November 29, the market will now continue to be held at its current location indefinitely.

Cllr Geoff Stevens said: “The market has grown tremendously since it moved to the park and traders are doing a lot better business than they did at the Imperial Rooms.”

Cllr Sue Burfoot added: “It’s been fantastic and is always a hive of activity.”
