A fire in the roof of the Old Bowling Green pub, Winster, was discovered at around 7pm on Monday eveningwhen smoke was seen in the bedrooms. Luckily the pub was closed at the time and we were in the flat over the pub.
If the pub had been open we would have been downstairs in the bar, and it could have been disastrous.
Matlock Fire Brigade were on the scene within minutes what could have been a major fire was fortunately dealt with before it had time to develop.
We have nothing but praise for the Matlock and Buxton Fire Brigade who were on the scene for nearly six hours with their two appliances.
hey displayed a high degree of professional expertise which resulted in only minimal internal water damage.
Before they left in the early hours of the morning they ensured that the building was in a water-tight condition too.
Thanks are also due to Don Shimwell for being on the scene within minutes of the Fire Brigade requiring his professional assistance.
