At 1.15pm, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service deployed crews to an incident on Station Road, Whittington Moor.
Firefighters are at the scene to assist in making a chimney stack safe.
Drivers in Chesterfield have been urged to avoid the area, with traffic building as a result of the incident.
