Post Office Ltd is hosting a public forum on the proposed relocation of Chesterfield’s Crown Post Office.
The Post Office proposes to move the Chesterfield branch from Market Place to a site with extended hours at WH Smiths, on The Pavements, in the town, from spring 2014. A six-week consultation started on November 20.
The Post Office stated Chesterfield aims to franchise about 70 Crowns for sustainability. But the CWU union claims the move will lead to fewer counter windows in peak times and fewer experienced staff facing an uncertain future if WH Smiths run the operation. Post Office Ltd claims it will be easier for customers and there will be no compulsory redundancies regarding Chesterfield Post Office.
The new branch aims to have six counters with the same services. The forum is at Chesterfield Hotel from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, on December 11. Submissions can be made at postofficeviews.co.uk, by FREEPOST Your Comments to Post Office Ltd, via email to email@example.com, or on 08457 22 33 44 or Textphone 08457 22 33 55 quoting branch code 011340. The Post Office is proposing to move Baslow Post Office to the Spar and Matlock’s Crown branch has been earmarked for a move.
