Foul-mouthed reveller must pay out £540

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Andrew Hart, 25, of Lucas Road, Newbold, Chesterfield, was abusive towards police during two nights-out in Chesterfield town centre.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Police were called after a report of males fighting and they drove to Stephenson Place. One male had pushed another to the ground and police were trying to deal with the youths and Hart became antagonistic and swore at an officer.

“Police told this defendant to leave but he continued to swear and as he walked off he turned round and demanded the officers’ numbers and despite being given further opportunities to go he did not and was arrested.”

Hart was involved in an incident about a week later on Holywell Street, according to Mrs Allsop, when he said he would take on a police officer. Despite efforts to issue a dispersal notice, the defendant became aggressive and was arrested.

Hart pleaded guilty to two counts of being drunk and disorderly in public after the incidents in December. He said he was embarrassed but he felt terrible because his friend had been thrown to the ground. He added: “My attitude was terrible and I’m sorry.”

He claimed he was arrested the second time because police realised he was on bail.

Magistrates fined Hart £330 and ordered him to pay £170 in costs and a £40 victim surcharge.
