Three men, from New Forest, were rescued from the top of Crowden Brook, after the team leader found them using smart phone technology on Saturday (March 12).

The men were stuck due to the underfoot conditions of snow and wet bog which slowed them down.

They were also only using smart phone lighting, which the rescue team says was “not appropriate” for those circumstances.

The team took additional lighting up to give it to the walkers as a safety measure.

The missing group were found safe and well and were grateful for the assistance.

Buxton and Edale rescue teams were also called to a hillside above Castleton Village, to rescue a downed paraglider, on Sunday (March 13).

The paraglider had hard-landed near Treak Cliff Cavern after his canopy had collapsed.

The pilot, a male from the Coventry area, was given pain relief, packaged, placed onto a mountain rescue stretcher and evacuated from the hillside.

A rescue team spokesman said: “The stretcher was sledged down the steep grass with a back rope attached, providing stability and safety to the waiting air ambulance, some distance below.”

He was flown to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, for further treatment.
