Free fun in Cromford

Community participation is the key for two new events taking place as part of the upcoming Celebrating Cromford weekend.

Developed over the last few months by Cromford residents Dave Redfern and Steve Rawlinson, the events comprise Cromford Rocks and Cromford Garden Party and will be held between June 14 and 16,

Life-long Cromford resident Dave said: “A number of years ago we had the Cromford Carnival and everyone seemed to be involved. The success of Celebrating Cromford has given us the idea to get everyone involved again. The Garden Party will be a reason for people to get together, chat and take part in what is going on – if they want to”.

The ethos of Cromford Rocks and the Cromford Garden Party centres on people giving their time freely, without payment or expenses, to the benefit of the community.

Cromford Rocks will be taking place on the evening of Friday, June 14, and features four bands with local members. Entry to the venue, The Bell Inn, is free. Cromford Garden Party takes place on the boules pitch at The Bell Inn from 2pm and features poetry, yoga, Cromford Folk Singers, a barbecue, strawberries and cream, real ale and more. Entry to this event is also free and everyone is encouraged to bring a blanket or something else to sit on. The yoga taster session will be led by a qualified yoga teacher, and is free too but will take place inside The Bell Inn. Space is limited so will be offered on a first come first served basis – bring a mat or a towel!

Steve Rawlinson said: “What we really want is for people to come along and join in. We have someone with a large repertoire of songs by The Beatles, Oasis, Coldplay and more who will lead a ‘sing-around’ for everyone to join in, as well as a ‘drop-in’ open mic session; just bring a guitar or an instrument and have a go, the more the merrier.”
