Friends and colleagues pay tribute to Tim Frohwein

Tim Frohwein was found in the Goyt Valley on Saturday by family friends who were helping to search for the 48-year-old.

The married dad-of-three, who was Chesterfield’s Chief Inspector, was reported missing from his Buxton home on Sunday, November 17.

Alcohol awareness campaigner Gary Topley, of Chesterfield, knew Mr Frohwein for five years.

Mr Topley said: “Tim was a massive help to me in my work and one of the best people I had ever met.

“He was kind-hearted, honest and supportive among many other things.”

Mr Topley wrote to Derbyshire Constabulary Chief Constable Mick Creedon when he started battling his alcohol addiction to see if he could meet with police.

He said: “Tim came to my house not long after and we spoke and stayed in touch ever since.

“I met him quite a bit for a general catch up and some guidance, mainly speaking about my personal life and alcohol work.

“He was always there as a positive role model for me and an inspiration. He is someone who will never be replaced and he will be sorely missed.”

Chif Con Mr Creedon spoke of his sadness at the tragedy.

He said: “Tim was a thoughtful man who was committed to his family. He had worked for Derbyshire Constabulary since 1993 having previously worked in the Kent and Cheshire police services. During a career break he also worked as a chief executive of an overseas charity.

“Tim worked across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales area as well as at police headquarters in Ripley, in roads policing and most recently in Chesterfield. He was experienced in land search and he was a highly experienced hostage negotiator.

“We have lost a valued member of the police service and his friends and colleagues will mourn his passing. My sincere condolences go to Tim’s family, particularly his wife and sons.”

Alan Charles, Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner, added: “I would like join with the Chf Con in passing on my sincere condolences to Tim’s family at this difficult time.”

Derbyshire police said Mr Frohwein’s body was found on the Grouse Moor during a search organised by his sons.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

His inquest is due to open on Thursday.
