Friends set to run in memory of George

A group of 14 friends will run the Manchester 10K later this month in memory of a Matlock lad.

George Harding was just 19 years old when he took his own life last March and now his friends want to pay tribute to him and raise money for charity in the process.

On February 28, they will be running for Papyrus, a charity which works to prevent suicide among young people and have raised almost £4,000 so far.

George’s friend, Charles Mellor, 21, of Henry Avenue, Matlock, said: “It is impossible to describe the huge effect that George’s death has had on so many people locally.

“But it is safe to say he will never be forgotten.

“Mental health issues are swept under the carpet in both education and in the workplace and there is not enough support available for vulnerable young people.”

The friends have already secured the backing of local estate agents, Sally Botham and Fidler Taylor, but are still looking for more funding so they can raise as much money for the charity as possible.
