FULL STORY: Sex predator's porn shame after creeping into women's homes

Derby Crown Court heard on Monday, February 29, how Wayne Buxton, 26, of Hawthorn Close, Woolley Moor, near Alfreton, reportedly checked for open doors across a Clay Cross neighbourhood in July, last year, before he struck.

Buxton was found guilty of two counts of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence and to one count of sexual assault following a trial in January.

He also admitted three counts of making indecent photos involving images of children on his laptop between December 2007 and July 2015.

Prosecuting barrister Martin Hurst told Buxton’s trial hearing: “He has a voracious appetite for pornography. After he had been in the second victim’s bedroom he had an extensive session of looking for pornography. The first half-an-hour included images of people sleeping.”

Buxton also viewed pornography with characteristics matching his second victim after he had been in her bedroom including links to sleeping, blonde and glasses.

Mr Hurst added: “He said he has a broad interest in porn.”

Prosecuting barrister Andrew Vout told the Buxton’s sentencing hearing on Monday that images were taken from his laptop and the computer tower which related to the three counts of making indecent photos of children.

Buxton told police he regularly accesses adult pornography and had accessed child pornography by mistake and he said he had no sexual interest in children.

William Bennett, defending, said: “The defendant regularly views pornography and it is not unusual for him to view this in the early hours of the morning.”

Buxton’s internet pornography viewing records came to light after the launch of police investigation which revealed how he had crept into the homes of two women under the cover of night and had sexually assaulted one of them.

The court trial heard how the night stalker’s first victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been asleep on her sofa and woke to find Buxton just six inches away from her face on July 18 last year before he fled.

His second victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had her buttock and thigh touched on July 25 while she was in her bed before Buxton escaped, according to the court.

Police stated they had come across Buxton in a pub car park in the early hours of the morning after the incident at the first victim’s home.

The court heard how checks on Buxton’s laptop revealed he had been viewing pornography matching the description of the second victim as well as child pornography.

Officers also discovered a hoody at the back of a cupboard at Buxton’s home matching a description from the first victim who picked him out of an ID parade.

Checks on Buxton’s phone matched his movements during the night of the second attack, according to the court.

During the trial, prosecuting barrister Martin Hurst said: “There was a man out trying door handles. Someone got into houses through insecure doors at night when you expect people to be asleep.

“Maybe he was looking and staring and tempting himself to do something. Staring, watching and touching.

“The first victim was in her living room and lights were on at 2.15am, on July 18.

“She was sitting on the settee and someone leaned over her.

“Someone was in her lounge and she opened her eyes and his face was six inches away and she escorted him out and she didn’t know what he was up to.”

Judge Burgess said: “The man said he had seen someone on her back garden and had seen her door was open and was checking she was okay.”

He added: “When she first work he had his hands towards her face. She said she was shocked and frightened.”

Judge Burgess said: “The second victim woke after she felt a presence in her bedroom and someone was running a finger from her buttock to her knee. She jumped up and shouted her partner who was downstairs asleep. The man ran from her house.”

He added: “She felt she was being watched and felt the corner of her bed cover lift and felt a finger from the bottom of her bum cheek to the back of her leg and knee.

“She jumped up and turned and this person was on the landing and he ran straight downstairs.

“She had distinctive blonde hair and she wears glasses and when police seized Buxton’s laptop the searches from that date involved blonde and glasses.

“He said he would look for blonde and glasses on other occasions but the CPS say he was doing it because he had just seen this woman with blonde hair and glasses.”

William Bennett, defending, said: “The defendant regularly views pornography and it is not unusual for him to view this in the early hours of the morning.”

Buxton’s arrest told police he was a nocturnal animal who went out and about in the early hours. He added that he lived alone and he gets nervous when people are about.

Mr Bennett, defending, said: “This is someone who is a deeply flawed and vulnerable young man who suffers with depression and has been suicidal.”

The 26-year-old had also been accused of entering the home of an 84-year-old woman in Derbyshire and sexually assaulting her but the jury found him not guilty on these two counts.

Judge Burgess sentenced Buxton, who has a previous conviction from 2007 for sexually assaulting a woman under a bridge, to eight years in custody.

Judge Burgess also banned Buxton from using computers and mobile phones unless information and history from the devices can be viewed and not deleted and be made available to police.

Buxton was also made subject to the requirements and restrictions of the sex offenders’ register.

Judge Burgess told Buxton: “It’s not surprising to learn from one of the victims that there hasn’t been a day since when she doesn’t think about what happened. It must have been terrifying for her.”
