Grants to improve the pool

WIRKSWORTH swimming pool has secured almost £2,000 to make the facility more environmentally friendly and to improve resources.

Through Councillor Garry Purdy, the pool secured a £1000 from the Derbyshire County Council Community Leadership Scheme.

This money has been used to purchase a pool cover which will help retain heat in the pool to reduce energy costs.

The pool has also been awarded a Derbyshire County Council Sports Action Grant of £735 to improve the resources available to children and adults attending swimming lessons at the pool.

Wirksworth Swimming Pool Manager Glyn Booth said: “This kind of financial support is invaluable as it allows us to improve the facilities on offer to the community.

“The pool cover will help us to reduce energy costs, which are seemingly always increasing.

“I can also confirm, watching the smiles of children using our pool, that the new swimming aids are already being enjoyed”
