GRASSROOTS: Bakewell Rotary’s all male voice choir concert

On Wednesday, September 15, the Rotary Club of Bakewell held a very special concert at which two male voice choirs combined to provide a super-concert.

These choirs were the Dore Male Voice Choir from Sheffield and the Liskerret Male Voice Choir from Cornwall totalling together 100 choristers.

The event registered an excellent return of around £ 1,000 some of which will be presented to president’s charity and some to Derbyshire Young Carers.

The Dore choir had recently performed at the London Guildhall and at Chatsworth House.

The Liskerret choir were on their way to perform in the Coventry Cathedral. The concert was held in the newly renovated Assembly room of the Bakewell Town Hall with an audience which filled it to its capacity of 145 who were able to get the full sound of the much loved old favourite tunes.

A very enjoyable evening ended with quite a dramatic end when one of the choristers passed out on the stage. A sufferer from low blood pressure he had been overcome by the heat generated by the other 99 choristers. He staged a speedy recovery.
