Great Hucklow homes protected against crime

Homes in Great Hucklow have been protected from burglars with free SmartWater kits.

Officers from the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team have visited dozens of homes and used the kits to mark possessions in houses, sheds and garages with the unique UV liquid.

The kits have been provided by the Derbyshire Dales Community Safety Partnership, led by police and Derbyshire Dales District Council, as part of a wider crime prevention initiative.

PCSO Anthony Boswell visited the area between Tuesday, June 11 and Saturday, June 15 marking property.

Signs informing people that SmartWater is in use have also been put up around the area to deter would-be thieves.

SmartWater is a fluid that contains a unique code and can be identified under UV light and helps police reunite the owner with those items if they are stolen and recovered.

It can be used to link a criminal with a crime scene, as the unique codes transfer to skin and clothing as well.

Any resident in the area who has not received a kit can contact PCSO Boswell on 101 or via the website www.derbyshire.police.uk.
