Labour councillors have slammed Tory cuts to the roads gritting programme.
Derbyshire County Council is proposing to cut gritting and reduce the number of snow ploughs and gritting lorries.
Labour group leader Anne Western said “Last year thousands of Derbyshire residents were stranded due to the authority’s inability to keep our roads open and moving.”
The council is asking residents for their views on gritting. A questionnaire is available online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/grittingconsultation
Cllr Simon Spencer, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “At a time when funds are becoming increasingly tight we needed to look at ways to grit Derbyshire’s roads more efficiently and effectively.”
