Gym to host event for charity

A breast cancer survivor has launched her latest fundraising and cancer awareness campaign after joining forces with a Chesterfield gym.

Joanne Taylor, 45, of Old Whittington, Chesterfield, is holding a three-day event at the Nuffield Health Gym, on Derby Road, Chesterfield, on August 18, 19 and 20 for Macmillan Cancer.

She said: “Nuffield Health has supported me during my recovery and I wanted to do something with them to say thank you and to help Macmillan.”

The gym is hosting a coffee and cakes gathering on August 18 and a raffle and is urging anyone to bake and donate confectionery to the gym on Monday.

An aqua-zumba class for all comers with donations going to MacMillan Cancer will be held on August 18.

Joanne is holding a fundraising and cancer awareness stall with information.

On August 19 Joanne is planning on doing a sponsored swim and the gym aims to hold a spinning class for Nuffield Health members. Breast cancer specialist Sue Oliver is due to give a speech from 10.30am, on August 20, at the gym. For details contact Joanne at [email protected].

Macmillan spokesman Rob Turner said: “Without the support of people like Jo we wouldn’t be able to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.”
