Hadfield dad hanged himself in back yard

Retired fireman David Ollerenshaw, 55, was found hanging in the garden of his home on Lambgates on the afternoon of May 29.

Police were called to the scene at 2.45pm and a suicide note was found in the kitchen, which also said how much he loved his family, including wife Lindsay Ollerenshaw, 50.

In September 2012, Mr Ollerenshaw, originally from Ashton, developed a hiatus hernia and acid reflux, a condition in which acid from the stomach leaks up into the gullet, which was causing him a lot of distress.

At the hearing at Chesterfield on Wednesday, psychological wellbeing practitioner Valerie Dickens, of Pennine Care, said that she had had seven cognitive behavioural therapy sessions with him since December 2012.

She said his physical problems were getting him down.

Assistant coroner Paul McCandless recorded a suicide conclusion.

He said: “He felt debilitated, anxious and depressed due to his underlying physical illnesses notwithstanding his loving family.”
