Half of council’s get database suspension
Nearly half of council’s in the country – including Derbyshire Dales District Council – have been suspended from DVLA databases after they were found to be using the system improperly.
The figures, exposed by privacy and civil liberties campaign group Big Brother Watch, show in total 294 public and local authorities had their access to the DVLA databases either temporarily suspended or terminated during the past three years.
Nick Pickles, director of Big Brother Watch, said: “The whole framework of how information is protected and when access is granted needs reviewing and a system that protects privacy put in place.”
