Half price cycle hire at Middleton Top

Cycle hire at Derbyshire County Council’s Middleton Top Visitor Centre will be half price during the Peak District Cycling Festival.

The festival takes place in September and aims to encourage visitors to the Peak District to travel by bike, with a range of events and activities taking place over the week.

And as part of the event, visitors will be able to claim a 50% discount off cycle hire at Middleton Top from 9-13 September.

The price with the discount will be £6 for adults for three hours and £4 for under 16s for three hours. Cycle helmets and child seats are also available to hire free of charge.

Cllr Andy Botham, Derbyshire County Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Jobs, Economy and Transport, said: “We are always looking for ways to attract more visitors to the countryside and this gives people the perfect opportunity to come along and cycle along the High Peak Trail and see what the area has to offer.”

The visitor centre is on the High Peak Trail in Middleton by Wirksworth and has a gift shop, car park, toilets and picnic area.

Middleton Top also houses the restored steam engine house built in 1829 by the Butterley Company to haul wagons up the Middleton incline, with the engine room open on certain weekends.
