HATHERSAGE: Drivers checked for insurance in road safety crackdown

Police checked more than 2,600 vehicles to make sure they had the correct insurance during an ongoing road safety campaign.

Officers from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team joined the Roads Policing Unit at routes across the area. They used ANPR cameras to scan vehicle number plates and automatically check whether they had insurance or not.

During last week’s event, all cars were found to have the correct insurance.

PCSO Anthony Boswell, from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We have an ongoing campaign to make our roads as safe as possible and making sure drivers have the right insurance is a key part of that. “Uninsured drivers can leave other, law-abiding motorists massively out of pocket in the event of a collision, so it was fantastic to see that of every vehicle we checked, everyone was sticking to the rules.”
