Throughout October, Derbyshire Constabulary are running a campaign to combat vehicle crime across the county. The campaign aims to increase awareness of vehicle security to further protect the public from being targeted by thieves as the darker nights draw in.

Officers from the Hathersage and Tideswell Safer Neighbourhood Team are issuing advice to encourage people to further protect themselves from crime. Crime prevention advice includes:

Make sure that all windows and doors are properly secure before leaving your vehicle unattended - even if it’s only for a short amount of time;

Keep any valuables out of sight, either in the boot or not in the car at all;

If you have a sat-nav, wipe the windscreen after you have removed it so there is no mark where the holder was placed;

Park in well-lit, overlooked areas where possible.

If you spot anyone acting suspiciously around parked and unattended vehicles, call police straight away on 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.
