HATHERSAGE: Van’s windows smashed as owner worked nearby

A vehicle parked on a Hathersage street had two of its windows smashed by thieves while its owner was working nearby.

The Vauxhall van was parked in Coggers Lane and was spotted with its windows smashed by a patrolling police officer.

The officer found the van owner, who checked the vehicle and found that nothing had been taken.

PCSO Anthony Boswell, from Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Although thankfully no valuables were taken in this particular incident, the van owner still has two smashed windows.

“That shows just how easy it is for criminals to target your car and leave you to fix the mess. “Thankfully, we live in a low-crime area but people shouldn’t give criminals an excuse – make sure all valuables are stored out of sight and, if you can, take everything with you.”

Witnesses or anyone with information on the vehicle damage, which happened during the morning of Wednesday, February 27, should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
