Healthy accolade for Baslow nurses

Members of the district nursing team, based at Baslow Health Centre in Derbyshire, have been named as NHS Heroes for delivering a gold standard service and care to their local community.

NHS Heroes is a national recognition scheme designed to celebrate the very best in the National Health Service. NHS staff across England are being honoured and the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, said he hoped patients and their families would take full advantage of the chance to thank all those who make the NHS great.

Dr Louise Jordan nominated the community nursing team at Baslow Health centre, led by community matron Ruth Brown. Dr Jordan said: “The district nursing team delivers a gold standard service to the community. Whatever the weather or level of demand the team pulls out all of the stops.”

She continued: “They are incredibly pro-active keeping regular contact with all patients whether by phone or visiting. They have an immense dedication to their patients and always give the time needed to provide the best in patient-centred care.”

NHS Heroes is also backed by NHS Chief Executive Sir David Nicholson. He said: “NHS Heroes is a celebration of the very best in the NHS. Whether they are working behind the scenes or on the front line, it is the job of every NHS staff member to save lives and care for people through their most difficult times.”
