At the Hayfield nursery, based at St Matthew’s Church hall, on Market Street, manager Cath Hallam and assistant Carol Andrew organised a pancake cafe for the children.

The infants heard the story of the Big Pancake and various other versions, then painted a picture of themselves as all the children depicted in the story.

In the role play area children dressed up as chefs and made pretend pancakes using hand whisks, beaters and spoons, while other children visited the cafe with their dolls and ordered a wide variety of pancakes with various fillings.

Cath said: “One little girl fancied olives on her pancake as she had recently been introduced to them and rather liked them!

“Of course Pancake Day would not go by without having real pancakes too which children and staff really enjoyed making and of course eating.”

While about a hundred people turned up to the party at the Buxton Road church in Dove Holes on Tuesday evening, to enjoy free pancakes.

Any donations raised were given to the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.
