Higher standards in tattoo hygiene

A new scheme that aims to keep residents safer and better protected when getting a tattoo is being launched by the council.

The Tattoo Hygiene Rating Scheme (THRS) has been introduced to help people find a registered tattooist that meets high standards of hygiene and professionalism.

It’s a voluntary scheme and tattooists in Derbyshire who sign up will be expected to meet strict standards, including -

• High standards of cleanliness of premises and equipment

• Customer age checks

• Sterilised equipment to avoid transmission of infections

The potential health risks of tattooing include infections and the transmission of blood-borne viruses such as Hepatitis B and C. For more, visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/tattoohygiene
