Highfield students get Gothic

Sixth-formers from Highfields School travelled to Whitby last weekend to take part in a Gothic Literature weekend as preparation for their course.

Home of Bram Stoker, the nineteenth century author of Count Dracula, Whitby provides an atmospheric location to study Gothic literature – such as Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronté and Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe.

Students performed dramatic readings from a wide range of Gothic texts as well as attending a workshop on the genre.

They were taken on a spooky Dracula walk and also around the Abbey ruins.

Teacher Katherine Christopoulos said: “The work the students produced was incredible and they threw themselves into everything we did with the greatest of enthusiasm.”
