Highfields School students celebrate A-level success

Fifty eight per cent of grades were in the A*-B category, with 83 per cent of grades hitting A*-C and an overall pass rate of 99.5 per cent.

The results maintain the Matlock school’s excellent track record over recent years, and mean the majority of Highfields students will be able to follow their planned route to university, secure places in employment or progress to further training.

Expressing his delight at the students’ performance, head of sixth form Martin Flett said: “I am really proud of how hard these youngsters have worked to achieve such great results.

“The commitment, drive and enthusiasm they have shown are typical of what we see from our students year on year.

“They have been a great year group to work with, being happy and well-rounded individuals who have made some great contributions to our community.”

His sentiments were echoed by assistant head of sixth form, Dave Turner, who added: “For year 13, these achievements represent seven years of hard work.

“Their examination results are outstanding, but as a group they have contributed so much on so many fronts such as performing arts, sport, the Duke of Edinburgh award and mentoring younger pupils.

“We are very proud of all their achievements and wish them every success in the future.”
