Honour Walk to mark 70th anniversary

Millions of gallons of water overflowing the Derwent Dam just days after Derbyshire was declared a drought zone.

The walk will take in the iconic towers of the Derwent Dam, used by 617 squadron to practise for the raid which took place on May 17, 1943.

Christine Selden, Community Fundraiser for Derbyshire, said: “Honour Walks are a great way to raise money to help our ex-service community and to honour all those who serve or have served in our Armed Forces.

“Walkers can walk in honour of someone they know who is serving or has served in the Armed Forces or walk in honour of 617 Squadron or for all who serve.”

The walk will start at Fairholmes Visitor Centre at 12pm and is on paths so is suitable for families with pushchairs or older participants who may have mobility scooters.

Dogs are also welcome but must be kept on a lead because of ground-nesting birds in the area.

There is a registration fee of £5, which is waived for walkers who agree to raise sponsorship.
