A SPORTING star popped into a hospice to hand over a cheque for money raised from a charity event.

The staff and youngsters at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice were thrilled to receive the cheque for £703.35, given to them by Olympic swimmer Ross Davenport and Abi List, of Indigo furniture.

The furniture store, in Dale Road, Matlock, raised the cash by organising a Jubilee fun day.

The event was held at Matlock Rugby Club, in Cromford Meadows, in May this year and Ross, who is from Belper, officially opened it.

The fun–packed day was a celebration of all things British in honour of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

There were attractions such as face painting and Maypole dancing as well as good old fashioned fish and chips .

Julie Hampson, a corporate fund–raiser for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice was on hand to accept the cheque.
