Hundreds enjoy a day to celebrate the disabled

Hundreds of people joined Olympic torchbearer and Paralympic footballer Leon Taylor at an event to celebrate the International Day of Disabled People.

Anyone with a disability – including their family, friends or carers – was invited to the ‘Clearing Hurdles’ event at County Hall in Matlock where more than 40 stalls were hosted by groups and services demonstrating help available in the county.

Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for public health Cllr Carol Hart said: “We were delighted to organise this event and it was fantastic to see so many people under one roof talking about their services and how they can work together to support people who need their help.”
