Inquest opens into Alexander Blick’s death

AN inquest has opened into the death of a man found dead in Matlock.

A Chesterfield hearing on Tuesday heard how Alexander Blick, 42, of Dale Road in Matlock Bath, was found by a member of the public at about 11am on Sunday, October 16, in the grounds of the town library in Steep Turnpike.

Mr Blick died as a result of head injuries. He was last seen alive at about 7.15pm on October 15.

Originally from Plymouth, he had lived in Derby and moved to Matlock about three months ago.

Deputy coroner Nigel Anderson adjourned the inquest pending further inquiries.

Floral tributes to Mr Blick have been left in the library grounds.

One read: “Alex, such a waste of a nice person. Will think of you often. R.I.P.”

Another said: “God bless you Alex, rest in peace from all you friends at Church on the Bus and Jigsaw.”

Police are appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Steep Turnpike area after 1pm on Saturday, October 15 to call officers on 101 the new non emergency number.

n Michael Wayne Carroll, 43, of Rutland Street in Matlock, appeared in Nottingham Crown Court on Friday charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody.
