JAIL for Derbyshire diesel thief caught by off-duty police

A thief has been jailed for 20 weeks after he was caught red-handed by off-duty police officers stealing diesel from a lorry in Heanor.

Darren Cooper, 49, of Peasehill, Ripley, pleaded guilty at a hearing at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January.

He was arrested by the two officers who came across the man syphoning the fuel from a HGV parked on Delves Road on Monday, December 28.

He was given a 20 week prison sentence.
