PASTY lovers in Matlock are in for a treat as Greggs will be opening an outlet in the town very soon.
The bakery has been granted full permission by the district council to open an outlet in the now empty Reeds Rains estate agents on Crown Square.
Greggs spokesperson Sara Humphries confirmed that the outlet will open to the public on September 22.
County, district and town counciloor Steve Flitter said: “Greggs always seem to be very popular and busy and I imagine it will be an attraction.
“How it will affect other food outlets in the town – we will have to wait and see.”
Greggs still haven’t confirmed how many jobs are likely to be generated by the new business but Steve is ‘hopeful’ that it will provide employment for people in the Dales.
Tony Symes, of Matlock Civic Society, said: “I think it will be a good thing for Matlock as we would rather see the town fully let than having empty shops.
“We also prefer smaller shops in the town rather than more big supermarkets.”
Steve Flitter added: “Greggs is a brand name, it’s a popular name and we will see if this new store has a positive effect on Matlock.”
Derbyshire Dales District Council were not available to comment on the development.
