There is a tie and tiara ball next month in memory of an Oaker woman who died from ovarian cancer last year.

The charity ball takes place at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale at 7pm on Saturday, September 10, in memory of Julie Gilbert.

The ball is being organised by Julie’s daughter Becky and her friend Tracy Mosely.

Becky said: “Through holding this event we hope to raise lots of money for the charity in memory of our brave Mum.”

The ball will see bands perform including Take The Seven from Chesterfield and local boys Lee Whittaker and The Something?

Tickets are £10 each. There will be a bar and a raffle with prizes donated by businesses.

For tickets, or to make a donation to the charity, contact Becky or Tracy on 07894483872 or 07890176090.

“Ovarian cancer is very little recognised early enough, not only by women themselves but also by doctors and other medical professionals. The symptoms are often not taken seriously enough as they are usually mistaken for something far less serious.

“Early diagnosis is key to helping more women survive this evil disease.”
