Kids set to have forest fun after power donation

Forest Schools offer children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment.

This includes taking part in den building, imaginative play, arts and crafts as well as using tools to make craft items or learning how to light fires and cook on them.

Seven local schools will benefit from the donation throughout December and January, and there will also be three Forest School family events available to the public.

Emma Wood, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s people engagement officer, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for local school children to experience Forest School not only with their school friends but also as a family.

“They will benefit holistically from spending time outdoors in nature at the same time as gaining new skills through the fun, challenging and inspirational experiences created during the sessions.”

Chris Bevan, team manager for the Matlock area from Western Power Distribution, said: “The great thing about Forest School is the fact the children have such a fun time in the outdoors they don’t realise what an abundance of skills they are developing as well as, we hope, creating a few keen conservationists for the future.”
