Grace-Louise Sharpe, a pupil at Clowns Children’s Centre, presented 16 boxes of popular chocolate Maltesers to pensioners living alone in bungalows along Victoria Crescent.

She was inspired to do something to help others in the run up to Christmas, after seeing an advert on television raising awareness of homelessness.

Great-grandmother Iris Barnes said she was very proud of Grace-Louise.

She said: “She saw the advert and decided she wanted to help people.

“The advert was raising awareness for the homeless, but after talking about a few options she settled on visiting pensioners that live alone, and have little or no family.

“After having a family discussion we suggested visiting some of the older people living alone in the area.

“There are lots of pensioners living in the bungalows in Victoria Crescent, so we decided to go there.

“Grace-Louise is so caring, she was excited to be able to do something for others.”

The youngster went door-to-door on Friday, December 11.

Iris added: “Grace-Louise thought it was lovely and really got into the spirit. She was handing over the chocolates and wishing everyone a merry Christmas.

“She was genuinely excited that people were talking to her and saying thank you.

“For anyone that didn’t answer, Grace-Louise left the box on their doorstep for when they returned.

“We were all really pleased with how it went, especially Grace-Louise.

“Hopefully it has gone some way to restore faith in youngsters these days.”
