Land sale celebrations for Wirksworth Preschool

Staff and children at Wirksworth Preschool have been celebrating this week after finally raising enough cash to buy the land on which the playgroup is sited.

The purchase now ensures a secure future for the playgroup, irrespective of any building developments on the adjacent former factory shop site –who’s owners had leased the land to the group before selling up recently.

Sue Wilson, senior supervisor, said: “After years of fundraising we are overjoyed and relieved to have finally purchased the land. Now it’s all ours to do what we want with.”

Despite spending “all of the money in the pot” on the land sale, the determined and dedicated team are planning a whole host of events to raise funds for redecoration, garden work and new windows.

Jenny Shorter, chair of the committee, said: “We’ll also be putting on more classes from September – from 9am until 12pm, a lunchtime club, and from 1pm until 4pm every week day – and will be looking at hiring two new members of staff soon.”

Emily Joyce, treasurer, added: “We are so excited and cannot wait for the future.”

On May 18 the group will be hosting a second hand toy sale at the Hope and Anchor function room. For more information call 01629 822625.
