Smiling Liam Brown enjoyed the “best ever day” when he met Derby County’s mascot.
The nine-year-old Wirksworth Junior School pupil has Cystic Fibrosis and is on the waiting list for a lung transplant at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
Thanks to the generosity of Derby County’s community project, Liam was able to enjoy a special treat when he spent an afternoon watching Derby County Football Club beat visitors Millwall 3-0 at Pride Park.
The icing on the cake for Liam was a trip onto the pitch and the chance to meet the team mascot “Rammie”.
Liam said he’d had the “best ever day”. He added: “Derby County are my favourite team and it was brilliant when they scored three goals. It was really exciting going on the pitch and meeting Rammie.”
Headteacher Lesley Grover said “Liam is a real trooper who always has a smile for everyone despite often being very poorly. We were very happy to be able to arrange this treat for him, thanks to Derby County in the Community who have worked closely with Wirksworth schools for some years now.”
