In 2011, Derbyshire Dales District Council used voice risk analysis (VRA) software as part of a review of council tax – a freedom of information (FOI) request has revealed.

The technology is supposed to identify signs of stress in a person’s voice to determine whether they are lying, however it was denounced by the Department of Work and Pensions in 2010 as it was found to be unreliable.
