Cyclists across the Dales are being urged to get their security into gear after police recorded numerous cycle thefts in the Matlock area recently.
Owing to this increase, police are now issuing crime prevention advice to safegaurd their property from thieves.
Sergeant Nick Reason, who is in charge of the Matlock Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “These are low-level thefts but nonetheless are affecting members of the community.
“Bikes can be very expensive items, so it pays to take these simple steps to protect yours from theft.”
Cyclists are advised to purchase a good quality lock and secure their bike whenever leaving it unattended; store bikes in a locked garage, shed or bike lock-up; have your bike security marked; register your bike on the property database.
